Our Academy Team
Lou Bartlett1
Louise Bartlett, Social Work Academy Lead for BCP Children’s Services

Hi, I’m Lou Bartlett and the Social Work Academy Lead for BCP Children’s Services. I qualified as a social worker in the early 1990’s and worked in Wiltshire with children in care for seven years. I then worked as a team manager in a range of teams at Bournemouth Children’s Services for 16 years in roles across the child’s journey, but I am best remembered for creating and managing the Family Solutions Team (FaST for short!) and The Lights Project, a Play Therapy Service for children affected by parental addiction.

I am an experienced Practice Educator and for the last 20 years have supported, coached, and assessed social work students on placements within our service, as well as facilitating our Assessed and Supported Year in Employment (ASYE) programme for newly qualified social workers.

I am committed to developing evidence-based practice and to supporting practitioner learning, embedding best practice across our services to ensure children and young people are at the front and centre of everything we do. Everybody in the BCP Children's Services should have the opportunity to grow, develop and progress at whatever stage of their career. I am committed to investing in the development of all our staff so they can be the best they can be.

I am the Learning and Workforce Development Manager and my role includes supporting post qualifying professional development opportunities for social workers, student placements, the Step Up to Social Work Partnership, Pan Dorset and Wiltshire Social Work Teaching Partnership with Bournemouth University, Social Work Apprenticeships, general training commissioning, workforce data and recruitment.

I qualified in 1988 having completed a PG Diploma in Social work /CQSW from University College, Cardiff. I’m a registered Social Worker and Practice Educator and have worked in Children's Services for over 35 years in various roles. I was a frontline practitioner for 11 years before moving into project work, policy and planning. I spent 8 years working in early intervention and early help services before moving back to Children's Social Care into the professional workforce development team in 2012. I have enjoyed contributing to the career development of our staff who may have started out in  a student placement or unqualified post and once qualified joined us as NQSW's through their ASYE and continued their social work career, becoming experienced and skilled practitioners and managers.

Hi, I’m Naomi, the Coordinator for the Step up to Social Work Programme for Children’s Social Care. This is for the Pan-Dorset and Wiltshire Teaching Partnership (South West Partnership 1).  I worked un-qualified in children’s social care from 2005 until qualifying in 2007. Since then I’ve gained a range of experience with children and families, both with the statuary and voluntary sectors, including as a practice educator and practice supervisor. It started out as an innocent fling with a Creative Writing through Literature course in London, but then I ended up with an MA in English Language and Literature and a love for the world of adult education. I then completed a Post Graduate Certificate in Education and received Qualified Teacher Status.

I thoroughly enjoyed the Psychology modules at University which led me to Applied Psychology and Yoga, and I became Yoga Teacher and a Yoga Therapist.

Apart from teaching General, Business, Military English and Pre-Master’s courses I’ve been providing workshops for teachers on teaching methodology as well as on mental and physical health based on yoga therapy and psychology.

I joined BCP in 2023 as a Mosaic Training Officer and I’ve been focusing on creating materials to support our participants to retain information more effectively and to ensure all learning objectives are met.
