Social Work Qualified Practitioners

This faculty supports social workers as their careers develop. The team help enable staff to build a detailed understanding of theory and practice, to develop special interests and expertise and the opportunity to support and learn from their colleagues and others.

Social Workers have a Professional Development Plan and opportunities to undertake Post Qualifying study at our partner university and/or specialist training for their area of practice.

All of our qualified Social Workers registered with Social Work England are supported to maintain their Continuous Professional Development (CPD).

We offer:

  • an evolving training programme accessible to all workers which has been developed to offer both virtual online and face-to-face training delivery
  • training booked via the central BCP Council booking system- Skillgate
  • individual training and CPD records
  • Induction , mandatory training and our Practice Fundamentals programme
  • a training offer based on feedback evaluation
  • impact evaluations 3 months after each event as we want to understand and evidence the impact on practice and especially the impact on the children and young people who receive our services.

Post Qualifying Pathway

We are able to offer social workers who wish to continue professional academic study and gain Post Qualifying (PQ) Continuing Professional Development (CPD) credits towards a Professional Practice qualification with Bournemouth University.

As well as our Practice Education pathway, we have offered Post Qualifying (PQ) modules on Risk and Decision Making and Evidencing Professional Learning and Best Interest Assessor. All academic study modules of 20 credits include three study days.

We are looking to expand our Post Qualifying (PQ) options for more specialist practice in the future. Modular Post Qualifying (PQ) Continuing Professional Development (CPD) means you can build credits to gain a Certificate, Diploma or Masters in Advanced Professional Practice.

Staff who need to develop specialist skills and knowledge in their area of practice are supported to do so. The Workforce Development team provide advice and guidance for all qualified social workers on their professional development and registration standards.

If you are a member of The British Association of Social Workers (BASW), we have a new local Dorset and Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole branch offering additional Continuing Professional Development (CPD) opportunities and support.

We are also part of the Pan-Dorset and Wiltshire Social Work Teaching Partnership, which also offers Master classes, Continuing Professional Development (CPD) opportunities for our qualified staff and the chance to contribute to teaching and learning on qualifying courses.

We continuing to work with Bournemouth University in order to continue developing research in practice opportunities, and opportunities for qualified practitioners to contribute to curriculum teaching on qualifying courses
